Making an appointment
We look forward to working with you and your family. To make an appointment at Eltham Paediatrics, simply follow these steps.
See your GP for a referral to Eltham Paediatrics.
Call us on 03 9437 0552 to make an appointment. Please have your referral ready. Please note: a $110 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking.
We will send you a confirmation email with detailed information about your child’s appointment. Please read this email carefully and complete and return all relevant forms and reports.
Why do I need a referral letter?
A referral letter from your GP is required to ensure your child receives the right care from the correct specialist. Your GP can assess and manage your child’s healthcare needs, but they may refer your child to a paediatrician if more complex management or a specialist opinion is required.
In addition, paediatric consultation fees are eligible for a Medicare rebate if the patient has a valid referral from a GP. To ensure your child receives the correct care and that you can receive any relevant Medicare rebates, we encourage you to see your GP and obtain a referral letter before calling to make an appointment with Dr Ward.
Don’t have a referral letter?
If you do not have a referral, you can still call us to discuss your child’s needs and our appointment availability, however, we are unable to make an appointment for your child without the GP referral.
Types of Referrals
Referrals are usually valid for 12 months, so if your child has ongoing appointments at Eltham Paediatrics, you will need to get a new referral at various times. If your child has an ongoing issue, your GP may write an indefinite referral beyond 12 months.
Remember: If you do not have a valid referral for the appointment, you will not be entitled to claim the Medicare rebate.
