Dr Christopher Ward

General Paediatrician
Dr Christopher Ward is the founder of Eltham Paediatrics and an experienced paediatrician working in general paediatrics, child development and behaviour.

  • Childhood and adolescent mental health

Background and training:
After working as a pharmacist in Eltham, Chris completed his post-graduate medical degree at the University of Queensland. He graduated with honours in 2001 and completed his paediatric training at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. 

Chris has a balanced clinical perspective from his time practising in large city hospitals and regional centres across Victoria, Queensland and British Columbia, Canada. He has experience in the public hospital system, private practice and tertiary medical education. In addition to his clinical practice, Chris has a keen interest in medical student training, evidence-based medicine and health care quality and safety.

Philosophy:
Chris has a strong commitment to child-centred practice and believes in a practical and collaborative approach in his work. He emphasises communication within families, informed decision-making and working together with other medical and allied health professionals.

Appointments:
Chris currently works in the Emergency Department at the Austin Hospital and has recently worked at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne in the departments of Emergency Medicine, the Centre for Community Child Health and in the departments of General Medicine and Neurodevelopment and Disability. 

Life beyond medicine:
Chris has always been a passionate sportsman, be it footy, basketball, cycling, skiing, running marathons or competing in the odd triathlon. Growing up in Eltham, Chris played basketball at Eltham Wildcats and still coaches there today. Chris loves to travel, build and spend time with his wife and three children.
